The Goal :
We wanted to engage our Twitter followers with an interesting contest on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. Keeping the festive essence in mind, we came up with the idea of inviting ethnic selfies where we asked the participants to share with us their ethnic selfies that captured the festivities in the frame. Since ethnic selfies was the area we were focusing on, we weaved the hashtag #EthnicSelfie into the contest.
Leveraging a trending hashtag is one thing every socially in-sync brand does and we completely utilized it and made it work in our favour. As our contest was based around festive ethnic selfies, we included the trending hashtag #HappyGaneshChaturthi also in our contest post to attract participants from outside the existing follower base.
Participation Rules :
All participants needed to do to enter the #EthnicSelfie contest was to
- Follow @Mapplinks on Twitter
- Retweet our contest tweets
- Post their ethnic selfies including the #EthnicSelfie and #HappyGaneshChaturthi hashtag during the one and a half hour contest period for their entries to be counted as valid.
The Results :
The success of any campaign is measured by its results. The result of this contest was that, our fan base grew from 1400 to 1500 followers in a span of one day. We received as many as 150+ entries for the contest which resulted in lot of incoming mentions, retweets and favourites which in turn helped making the hashtag trend on India level.
